Caring for Your Wild & Rye Handmade Beanie
One of the best things about handmade is that it’s built to last. Your Wild & Rye beanie isn’t just a seasonal accessory—it’s an investment in warmth, comfort, and western-cozy style. With the right care, your beanie will stay by your side through chores, campfires, Saturday errands, and every crisp high-desert evening in between.
Here’s how to keep yours feeling fresh and new:
Wash with Care
Most of our yarns are soft, durable, and machine washable. You can toss your beanie in the wash on a gentle cycle with cold water, then tumble dry low.
BUT—if your beanie has a faux fur pom, that’s a different story. Poms don’t belong in the washer or dryer. For pom-topped beanies:
-
Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent.
-
Gently reshape.
-
Lay flat to dry.
Side note: Things happen (husbands, I’m looking at you 👀) and sometimes clothes sneak into the dryer that don’t belong there. Bless their hearts! If your pom ends up destroyed in the process, don’t panic. Reach out—we’ve got replacement poms available so your favorite beanie can live on.
The Beanie Squeeze
Here’s a Wild & Rye pro tip: every time you take your beanie off, give it a little squeeze.
Why? When you wear your beanie, your head warms the fibers and they stretch to your unique shape (that’s what makes it so cozy). A gentle squeeze after you take it off helps the stitches reset, tightens things back up, and keeps your beanie feeling brand new for the next wear. Think of it as giving your hat a hug before bedtime.
Dealing with Fuzz & Pilling
Over time, even the best yarns can start to pill or get fuzzy. That’s just proof your beanie is well-loved. To give it new life:
-
Use a sweater shaver, fabric comb, or even a simple razor.
-
Glide it gently over the surface to remove pills.
-
In just a few minutes, your beanie is looking fresh again.
Handmade to Last
Each Wild & Rye piece is made to be lived in, not just looked at. With a little care (and a squeeze here and there), your beanie can last for years. It’s not fast fashion—it’s a companion for slow mornings, starry nights, and all the stories in between.
